GAVI's partners and stakeholders gathered in Hanoi, Vietnam from 18-20 November 2009 for the 4th GAVI Partners' Forum.

The 2009 GAVI Partners’ Forum provided a unique platform for partners to exchange ideas about opportunities and challenges ahead, and provided feedback on GAVI’s policies and strategy for the next five years through 2015.

The meeting gathered distinguished global health leaders and a wide range of international delegates from GAVI-eligible countries and from donor countries, representatives of civil society organisations, technical experts and private sector partners.

We have heard from developing countries about their experiences in fighting vaccine-preventable disease, share best practices and reflect on lessons learnt. We have discussed challenges ahead – particularly given the current economic climate – and the way forward to fulfill GAVI’s mission of saving children's lives and protecting people's health through increased access to immunisation.

The Millennium Foundation has coordinated with the GAVI Alliance the workshop “Forging Powerful Pubulic-Private Partnerships in Global Health” that took place on Thursday, 19 November at the Hotel Melia in Hanoi.

It was a great honor for the Millennium Foundation to have the opportunity to coordinate this session, whose objectives were to:

  • share experiences and discuss the value of public-private partnerships
  • discuss what have we learned from these partnerships in global health
  • explore how private individuals can support health and immunization
  • discuss and debate how GAVI can move forward as a public-private partnership
