MASSIVEGOOD will go live in the US on March 4th, and travelers will be asked if they would like to contribute $2 to fight HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis and improve maternal and child health. Those who say “yes” to MASSIVEGOOD will also become “micro-ambassadors,” as they spread the word about our easy way to help solve the global health crisis.

But the Millennium Foundation has also enlisted some not-so-micro-ambassadors to lend a hand. In order to build up public awareness of our project, a series of three launch events will be organized in New York City, featuring a dizzying range of well-known figures in politics, global health, entertainment and the travel industry.

For now, we can only tell you that our very first MASSIVEGOOD donator will click on March 4th, during an official high-level event at the United Nations, hosted by the Millennium Foundation’s Chairman Philippe Douste-Blazy and Managing Director Bernard Salomé.

During this special meeting, we will discuss how MASSIVEGOOD and other innovative finance initiatives can complement government development aid while giving citizens a stake-holder’s role in building a healthier world. We will also premiere a new 1-minute film, “Masterpieces,” made for MASSIVEGOOD by Spike Lee and featuring Mary J. Blige, Samuel L. Jackson, Susan Sarandon, writer Paul Auster and physicist Brian Greene (check out our blog post about the filming last month).

In the run-up to this high-level session, two other events in the city will kick off our movement. On February 26th, we will be participating in a special event at the New York Times Travel show, to introduce our travel-based fund-raising solution. This will be followed by a MASSIVEGOOD Studio on March 2nd, where some recording stars will lay the groove down for our movement with a “MASSIVEGOOD” original song.

“Our launch events in New York will use big names from travel, entertainment and politics to get our message across to people all across America,” said Managing Director Bernard Salomé. “After March 4th, the power to change will be in their hands. In record time, the American people showed their concern for Haiti’s earthquake victims by providing immediate assistance – more than $30 million dollars has been raised using cell-phone donations alone.”

On March 4th, www.massivegood.org will go live. But before, we will be blogging, tweeting, facebooking, youtubing in real-time during all these events. Follow us on twitter and visit our pages at facebook, youtube, flickr and find out “who will be the first to click?”.
